Carthage and Sidi Bou Said: a perfect day near Tunis

Roman ruins in the morning, blue and white lanes in the afternoon: an easy day out from the capital.

Morning among the ruins

Carthage, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is spread over several separate sites. Start with the Antonine Baths by the sea, then head up Byrsa Hill for the view. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water.

Afternoon in Sidi Bou Said

A few minutes away, this hilltop village is known for its white walls and blue doors. Wander the lanes without a plan, then stop for a mint tea with pine nuts overlooking the gulf.

Getting there

The TGM light railway links central Tunis with both places. To avoid working out the stops and the timing, you can also join a guided day tour or book a private guide.
