Money
The Tunisian dinar is a closed currency: you change it on arrival and change what is left before flying home, so keep your exchange receipts. Cards work in hotels and larger shops, but carry cash for souks, taxis and small cafés.
Language
Arabic is the official language and French is widely spoken. In tourist areas you will often hear English, German and Italian too. A simple "aslema" (hello) or "choukran" (thank you) always earns a smile.
Getting around
Taxis use a meter in the main towns: check that it is running. Louages, the shared minibuses, link towns when they are full. For early flights or groups, a booked transfer is the simplest choice.
Everyday etiquette
Dress modestly in medinas and religious sites, and ask before photographing people. Bargaining is part of the fun in souks: stay friendly and only name a price you are ready to pay.
